MAYFAIR HOUSE
The timber screen cladding is the protective layer that wraps around the facade of the house, filtering and obscuring the view for private areas, with recessed openings for socialising and outdoor living.
There are separate living and sleeping spaces on both levels, providing space for extended family and guests.
The facade’s dense vertical lines feather out at the top and turn the buildings’s corners with a tight curve, which gives the house a shifting appearance of both solidity and transparency as you pass it on the street.
A family home in Whangamata, NZ.
The design for this family home on a busy street corner in Whangamata utilizes an existing structural building footprint, and adds an angular timber form that rests over the lower level, responding to the shape of the site.
